Silent Scribbles

Katie Boyd Britt

Katie Boyd Britt is one of the state Senators for the state of Alabama. She was elected in 2022 and sworn in 2023. She’s the first women elected for the state of Alabama and the youngest woman Republican elected to the Senate.

She was born February 2, 1982. Her mother was a dance studio owner and her father owned a hardware store and later a boat dealership. She studied political science at the University of Alabama and graduated in 2004 with her bachelor of science degree. She went on the study law at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating in 2013 with her Juris Doctor (which is a doctorate of law).

Prior to 2022, she had never ran for office, although she had been a press secretary and chief of staff.

She sponsored 17 bills during her year and a half of public service:

  • US-SRES728
  • US-S5150
  • US-S4500
  • US-SRES45
  • US-S4832
  • US-S2917
  • US-S3933-Laken Riley Act
  • US-SRES801
  • US-S4126
  • US-S332- WALL Act
  • US-S4400
  • US-S333
  • US-S4296- MOMS Act
  • US-S3263
  • US-S348
  • US-S3470
  • US-S3349

She has also co-sponsored 363 bills and served on 20 committees.

She is pro boarder wall and has visited the US/Mexican border 2 times. She was harshly criticized for her speech that mentioned a woman who had been sex-trafficked since she was 12 by the Mexican drug cartels. This was mis-leading information because the Britt had never met the aforementioned woman who hadn’t been trafficked to the United States.

Britt criticized President Biden after his State of the Union address in 2024 for his border policies.

Britt was parodied on Saturday Night Live by Scarlett Johansson in a skit where Johansson auditioned for a part in “Scary Mom” acting as Katie Britt.

She supported the ban on the teaching of the critical race theory, was a critic of the Chinese Communist Party, joined other Republicans who called TikTok a “Trojan horse for the CCP”, supports Israel and the $14.3 B aid package for Israel, supports criminalizing “gender-affirming surgeries for minors” and allowing students on only use bathrooms that align with the gender on their birth certificates, criticized Big Tech after the Twitter Files were released, and voted against the final passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023.
